Storybutton ("Storybutton," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by Storybutton Inc, provides an app that helps parents and caregivers discover kid-friendly podcasts, remove ads, and save clean audio to an SD card or device ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The App is intended for parents and adult caregivers. It is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. See "Children's Privacy" below.
By using Storybutton, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are stored in a securely hashed form and are never visible to us.
- Communications. If you contact us for support, we collect the information you choose to share (such as your email address and message).
Information created through your use of the App:
- Subscription and purchase information. If you buy a subscription, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store. We (and our subscription provider, RevenueCat) receive a purchase receipt, subscription status, and an app-assigned user identifier so we can unlock and maintain your access. We do not receive your full payment card number or billing address.
- Search activity. When you search for podcasts, we may log the search terms — including searches that return no results — so we can improve and expand our catalog. These logs may be associated with your account identifier.
- Library and content choices. The App stores the shows and episodes you add, your edits, and your downloads. Downloaded audio is stored locally on your device or SD card and is not uploaded to us.
Information collected automatically:
- Basic technical and diagnostic data. We may collect limited technical information (such as app version, device type, operating system version, and crash or error logs) to keep the App working and to fix problems.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- create and maintain your account and authenticate you;
- provide the App's core features (search, ad removal, downloading, and saving audio);
- process and validate subscriptions and restore purchases;
- operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App and our podcast catalog;
- respond to your support requests; and
- protect against fraud, abuse, and security risks, and comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run the App, and only as needed:
- Apple — processes App Store purchases and manages auto-renewable subscriptions. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — provides our authentication, database, and backend hosting (stores your account record and app data).
- RevenueCat — manages and validates your subscription status.
- Podcast data providers — we retrieve podcast information from Listen Notes, the Apple/iTunes podcast directory, and publicly available RSS feeds. When you use AI-assisted "deep search," your search query may be sent to these services (and our search provider) to find matching shows.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
4. Data Retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. We retain other information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your associated personal information within a reasonable period.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- Access and update. You can view and update your account details within the App.
- Account deletion. You can delete your account and associated personal data at any time from within the App (Settings), or by emailing us at the address below. Deleting the App alone does not delete your account.
- Subscriptions. You manage, cancel, or change subscriptions through your Apple ID account settings; subscription billing and renewals are handled by Apple, not by us.
- Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to request a copy of it. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
6. Children's Privacy
Storybutton is designed for parents and adult caregivers and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. While the content discoverable through the App is intended to be kid-friendly, the App account is meant to be created and managed by an adult.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards — including encryption in transit and hashed passwords — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Users
We operate in the United States, and your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. These countries may have data-protection laws different from those in your country. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
9. Podcast Content from Third Parties
Podcasts and related artwork, descriptions, and audio are created and owned by third parties and delivered via their RSS feeds and podcast directories. We do not control that content, and this Privacy Policy does not cover third-party websites or services you may access through those feeds.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
