Summary: After tragedy strikes the Cooper family farm, they are left to pick up the pieces, on the farm and in their hearts. When a new wild stallion finds his way near the farm, Bailey instantly sets out on a mission to save him and reclaim the dream she thought was lost along with her brother, all the while learning to courageously walk new paths of self reflection and friendship.

- Medical Diagnosis’: Before the show begins, the main character, Bailey, has recently lost her older brother to cancer. We never meet her brother, Connor, as he passed away a few months previous, but Bailey talks about him frequently as she grieves this loss. About a year ago, Connor fell off Bailey’s horse, Sunny, and he’s found unconscious. After suspecting a concussion, their trip to the hospital discovers a stage 4 brain tumor in Connor. The entire Cooper family is put in a difficult position and must work together to keep the ranch going without Connor who was once thought to be the one who would run it one day.

- How are parents viewed: Bailey’s mom and Gpop (Grandfather) are both trying to support Bailey as she works through the death of her brother. Their different tactics are displayed throughout the season as Mom is the patient comforter and Gpop is a purposeful storyteller.
- Friendship: Bailey asks her new friend, Zoey, to help her in the plan to catch and save the wild stallion, even though her parents would not approve of this plan. Zoey does not feel right about it and refuses to go along with the plan, even saying that she will tell Bailey’s mom. Bailey is undeterred and angry with her and says they can’t be friends anymore. Later on, Bailey visits Zoey at her house, admits that she was wrong and apologizes. Zoey shows grace to Bailey by immediately forgiving her. This moment strengthens their friendship in a new way.
- Father Daughter Relationship: We learn that Bailey feels like her Dad does not appreciate the things she cares about. She feels like she will never live up to her late-brothers ambitions that their father loved. Towards the end of Season 1, Dad returns home from the rodeo with big news for Bailey that supports her dreams. This emotional moment brings them together in a new way, establishing a bright future for their relationship.
